When a customer uses a gift card with a fixed price, they have flexibility in how they spend it:

1. If they don't spend the full amount:
1. The remaining balance stays on the gift card
2. They can use this balance for future purchases
3. The gift card can be used across multiple orders until the balance is depleted
2. If they want to buy something more expensive:
1. They can apply the gift card to partially pay for the order
2. The system will prompt them to choose an additional payment method for the remaining balance
3. They can even combine multiple gift cards on a single order

Gift cards work like store credit - the balance is applied to the total order value (including taxes and shipping), and any unused amount remains available for future purchases. Customers can also combine gift cards with discount codes for additional savings.

The only restriction is that gift cards cannot be used to purchase other gift cards.
